New Year!
Happy New Year, dear readers.
I'm going to be starting my other blog this afternoon, so don't fret. You can look forward to recipes like black eye pea soup, orange kissed beets, and curly kale with sesame seeds, tofu, and coconut rice. That's just for the rest of this week.
Ok, it's time to start this year off right. I'm going running, and then I'm going to drink a beautiful green smoothie. Wahoo! I'm looking into getting green powders instead of always using fresh greens in my smoothie, so that I can rotate more greens through. Does anyone know any good brands? I'm not sure if I want just one type, or a mix of greens. I could just get spirulina, chlorella, or green kamut by themselves, and then I could rotate them. I guess I should finish reading my "Green Foods Bible," and figure it out.
To the treadmill.

365 days is going to happen!
The 365 days of healthful eating blog is going to happen. I haven't decided which of the options, but I'm leaning toward the whole menu plan idea. I'm going to spend next week researching recipes, and working on the layout of the blog. I'm also going to be reading all the tips on blogging for beginners.
This week, however, I have an organizational project at home that needs my full attention, so no recipe research just yet.
This blog will stay my personal blog, and I'll find another home for the 365 one, most likely.

365 days blog
So, I had an idea. I've read a little bit on some 365 days blogs (like 365 days of Crock-potting), and I had an idea. I could do a 365 days of healthful eating blog. It's in its planning stage, so I don't have all the details nailed down. One thing I've always wanted to do was to try a new recipe every day, so that could be part of it. Also, I've wanted to get into the habit of menu planning at the beginning of the week to cut down on grocery store bills, and time running back and forth to the store because I decided to make something I don't have the ingredients for.
Here are a few of the ideas I'm tossing around in my head:
1. A new raw recipe every day. This doesn't mean I'm jumping in 100% to the raw vegan thing, but I would plan a menu for 1 raw meal per day (and my green smoothie in the morning wouldn't count unless I got really really busy, or if it was a new combo of ingredients and really really good), and post the recipes and reviews throughout the week. Ideally the recipes would be something you could do with minimal equipment.
2. A new vegan recipe every day. Have some raw recipes thrown in the mix, but have most of the recipes be vegan.
3. Do a complete menu planning for the week: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This would be the most difficult, I think, but it may be the most beneficial (for me and for any readers I get). I would like to show that you can eat vegan with some raw thrown in and still get all the nutrients you need to get through the day.
In any case, I will need to do some research -- look for recipes, categorize them by ingredient, season, type of cooking and equipment required, etc. If I'm really smart, I'd plan out weeks at a time way ahead of time, and then I would mix and match the weeks based on what's on sale at the grocery store. Hmmm... There's an idea.
I should get started if I'm going to make this happen, huh?

9 months later...
I'm back.
The juice feast didn't last long. I did the master cleanse in July/August, and that went much better.
Today, I ran for the first time since Thanksgiving, and it felt wonderful! I love exercising, but sometimes it's hard to remember that when you feel like being lazy. No wonder I've been so lethargic lately -- no exercise.
I'm not sure if I'm diving back into the raw foods thing 100% just now, but it's been on my mind a lot lately. It's one of those things that feels so true, no matter how hard I try to resist it. And, having just eaten a beautiful tangerine, I wonder how can you not be seduced by beautiful raw goodness?
I'm going to try to keep this going more steadily. I'll post some goals of mine tomorrow.

Day 5
I started today with a quart of gross green juice. It sounded nice in theory, but it didn't settle in my tummy (or on my tastebuds) very well. It was spinach/celery/cucumber/orange juice.
At lunch, I ate. I actually ate. I was on a tour of a power plant for school, and they fed us lunch. They had a great spread of fresh fruits and veggies, so I went for those, and then, after much deliberation, I decided to eat one of the sandwich quarters that were there, too. It was tomato, onion, lettuce, pepper, so nothing too bad (other than the bread). I really concentrated on my food, and I chewed it really well. I don't feel guilty about doing this. I'd been thinking about it all of yesterday, and when I started my juice feast, I decided it would be modified. Now, I have settled on my "modification" rules. They are:
I must (underlined) include 1-2 lbs of leafy greens, and 1 head of celery in my daily intake.
Start the day with a green juice, or a green smoothie.
I think it will be best of me to focus on including these things, and seeing how my cravings shift towards a healthier, plant-based diet. That being said, I am going to pay extra attention to the negative cravings, and I'll do my best to nip them in the bud with healthful alternatives.
Like my mom says -- everything (ok, maybe not everything) in moderation.
In happy news: I got my enema kit today. So, I'm going to start doing those (not daily since I'm not 100% juice feasting), and see if that diminishes my cravings for SAD food. I also got a case of Dr. Martin's Coco juice, which is the closest thing I could get to a raw, young coconut around here. I'm very excited.
I do miss the empty but not hungry feeling of juice feasting from the past few days. I think the past four days have really shed light onto why I eat, when I eat, and what I eat. I tend to eat out of boredom, and I don't need to eat for that reason. I should eat to sustain myself, and to energize myself -- not to block out emotions or because I have nothing better to do.
Right now, I'm drinking an arugula/mango/lime green smoothie, and it's fantastic. Well on my way to 1-2 lbs of greens today!
Edit: Ok, it's 8:40 PM now, and I had some raisin bran cereal for dinner. I feel awful! Really bloated and icky. I knew I felt good while juice feasting, but I didn't realize how good. Maybe I ate it too fast, or maybe I should stick with fruits and veggies when I eat. Or maybe I just ate too much. In any case, I need to pay more attention to my body's signals when I'm eating.
